Arsenal’s Invincibles re-unite to play together once more… this time not at football
Arsenal stars Sol Campbell, Robert Pires, Ray Parlour and… Ashley Cole swap their shin pads for PlayStation pads
The Invincible stars reminisced about old memories and made some electric new ones to celebrate the release of Marvel’s Avengers which launches on September 4th

London, U.K. - Famous for never losing a Premier League match, Arsenal’s iconic 2003/04 team have re-assembled once more, 17 years since they were crowned “The Invincibles”, to take on their latest challenge: playing the Marvel’s Avengers videogame.
The squad, led by veteran Invincible, Ray Parlour, consisted of legendary French winger, Robert Pires, towering centre-back, Sol Campbell, and they all received a welcome surprise when The Invincible’s dominant left-back and current Chelsea U15’s coach, Ashley Cole, returned to join forces with his former teammates. Each of the squad powered up their PS4 from home and connected online to take on the year’s biggest videogame release, Marvel’s Avengers, to find out if their Invincible DNA transferred from the football field to the field of Superhero charged action.

During hours of intense play they reminisce about their Invincible season, revealing whether they celebrated Liverpool losing to Watford last season to preserve their history-breaking record, which divided opinion between the players!
Sol Campbell also emphatically revealed that he would happily join Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff at Arsenal coaching following an Invincible shaped hole with the departure of Freddie Ljunberg, shouting ‘Put my name forward!’ down the microphone.
The heroic foursome recalled some of their most challenging duels in the mid-2000s to prepare themselves for Marvel’s Avengers, with Ray Parlour delivering the rallying cry, ‘Right lads, let’s imagine we’re playing Manchester United at Old Trafford’ as they loaded into battle.
Talking about his experience playing Marvel’s Avengers, Ashley Cole said: “It was so good to play with the boys again. I’d missed the feeling of having Sol Campbell to back me up in a tricky situation and have Pires looking good ahead of me but not turning around to help me out, it really did feel like old times! Re-assembling to play Marvel’s Avengers was the perfect excuse to relive some of those golden memories, it’s just a shame we weren’t quite as Invincible with a controller in our hands!”
Sol Campbell, who took the role as Hulk during the session, said: “It was a great excuse to remind the boys who’s the powerhouse in our team, and whether it’s the football pitch or the TV screen I’m always going to want to smash my opponents around. It was a pleasure to see the lads again and bring the good times back.”

Team leader and veteran of the group, Ray Parlour, said: “We showed the character that made our team Invincible, it’s not just about winning games, it’s about learning from setbacks, knowing the different skills we all bring to the table and putting them all together on the fly. You can’t match the feeling of winning as a team so it was a genuine thrill to get back together with the boys and bring the magic back.”
Robert Pires, speaking from his new home in Ibiza, said: “I’m not a professional gamer but by the end of the session I felt like I had superpowers! The boys helped me when I needed it like a good team always does.”
Marvel’s Avengers will be available to purchase from September 4 for PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC. For more information visit

- ENDS -
Marvel’s Avengers offers players a truly rich experience, with a combination of Hero Missions and War Zones. Hero Missions are single-player only and are part of the initial Campaign. They are designed to showcase each hero’s unique abilities as you reassemble your growing roster. War Zones can be played solo or with a group of up to four players** as any Hero in your roster. Each mission dynamically scales based on the team size and player level.
Players in Marvel’s Avengers are also able to customize Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a number of ways. While each Super Hero plays true to their unique power sets, each has the flexibility to play differently based on the gear you equip them with and the skills you enable, so no two player’s heroes plays in exactly the same way. Each hero has dynamic combo systems, Heroic moves, an intrinsic ability, and signature move sets to unlock and customize – many inspired by classic moves from the 80 years of Marvel history in all media, others crafted as originals just for this game.
Players also customize these iconic Super Heroes with classic, fan-favorite, and all-new original outfits inspired by over 80-years of Marvel history, including Iron Man’s suit from the 2014 Original Sin storyline, or Thor’s Donald Blake identity, which is a nod to an alias of Thor’s who first appeared in 1962’s Journey into Mystery issue #83.
Marvel’s Avengers is an ambitious game, starting with a global high-stakes race to reassemble and rebuild the Avengers. But that’s just the beginning. To ensure a continuing heroic experience for all players, the narrative of Marvel’s Avengers expands, and threats escalate with each new post-release Super Hero, region and story arc delivered to players at no additional cost once they own the core game.
Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on September 4, 2020. Marvel’s Avengers will be available on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X when the consoles launch in the 2020 holiday season. Players who own the current-gen version of the game will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version at no additional cost, regardless if players are moving from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X. Those moving their saves to next-gen consoles will transfer their player profiles and progression so they can pick up right where they left off. In addition, cross-gen play will be supported so PS5™ players will be able to play with their friends on PS4™ and Xbox Series X players will be connected with their friends on Xbox One. The game is currently rated T (Teen) by the ESRB.
